Create an FPS Mission centered around an overaching story.

Design Goals

  • Design and create a mission centered around narrative
     

  • Show level design skills through layouts, pacing and readability.
     

  • Include gameplay systems and scripted events to create interesting encounters.
     

  • Have set pieces and moments that helps with player engagement and progression.

  • Experience in designing and building a complete playable mission from pre-production to final implementation.
     

  • Improved level design and pacing skills to guide players through clear objectives.
     

  • Gain experience with gameplay scripting to understand the importance of gameplay events.
     

  • Development of technical skills in the context of level design, lighting and optimisation.

This project was:
Overall the project was a successful exploration of designing and building a complete playable mission and which helped me gain a better understanding on level flow, gameplay integration, and world-building.

What Worked:

  • Clear gameplay and mission structure.

  • Giid environmental design and players clearly knew where they were.

  • Iterative development improved overall level quality.
     

Challenges:

  • Early issues with wayfinding and player navigation.

  • Backtracking disrupted pacing and flow.

  • Required a full level resculpt at one stage to improve layout and readability.
