Project Brief

 

Reimagine a single gameplay mechanic from one game in a completely different genre, creating a unique and unexpected player experience.

Design Goals

  • Explore how a single mechanic can change a new genre.

  • Make a playable prototype that clearly communicates the mechanic.

  • Build on problem-solving skills.

  • Show adaptability and originality in applying mechanics outside their usual context.

Project Post Mortem

This project was a direct look into my own abilitiy to be creative and also deepen my understanding of how to make blueprints within UE5. I learned a lot of what I was good at but also what I wasn't up to the standards I wanted to be.

 

What Worked:

  • Successfully adapted the mechanic to feel natural.

  • Prototype clearly demonstrated the mechanic’s impact on gameplay.

  • Iterative process improved clarity, engagement and balance.
     

Challenges:

  • Balancing the novelty of the mechanic with player understanding.

  • Scaling difficulty to match skill progression.

  • Time constraints limited polish and accessibility features.
